Royal Poets of Enfield
Sunday 7th May 2023, 4pm
Forty Hall, Forty Hill, EN2 9HA
Henry VIII... Elizabeth I... James I... Raleigh... They all lived in Enfield and were all poets.
Both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I lived in Elsyng Palace, a royal residence as big as Hampton Court, which was towards the end of the lime tree avenue opposite Forty Hall.
It is thought Raleigh famously laid down his cloak for Elizabeth I, his Queen, at Maiden’s Bridge, so these early Poets have a connection with Forty Hall Estate.
Michael King, historian and lecturer in literature, will talk about the poetry and context of these early poets in relation to Forty Hall.
A great event celebrating the Royal Poets of Enfield in the gorgeous Forty Hall.
Tickets £6.00
A contribution from tickets sales will be donated to the Mayor of Enfield's chosen charities.
